ROBERT F. "BOB" Shields

Shields Robert F. (Bob) passed away after a brief illness on May 16, 2022 in Woburn.
He was born on July 16, 1931 in Jamaica Plain and was later a resident of South
Boston for many years. A Northeastern graduate with a degree in accounting, he spent
a number of years working as the Bursar at the Boston Athenaeum. Beloved husband
of 56 years to the late Jean A. (Mason) Shields. Devoted father of Julie Shields-Rutyna of
Acton, Susan Shields and her Husband Marc Dumas of Reading. Brother of the late
Richard Shields of Dedham, Anna McCarney of Venice, FL, and Mary Lou Costello of
Milford. Grandfather of Brett and Alison Rutyna, Scott, Kyle and Ethan Dumas. Also
survived by many other relatives and close friends. Bob was an involved parishioner at
Gate of Heaven Church. He was also an energetic participant in community activities
such as Castle Island Association in South Boston and Bethesda Lodge in Quincy.
Visiting hours in the Wm. F. Spencer Funeral Home 575 E. Broadway (at H St.) South
Boston on Friday, May 20 from 4-8 PM Funeral Mass in the Gate of Heaven Church, 615
E. 4th Street, South Boston on Saturday, May 21 at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends
kindly invited to interment at Mt. Benedict Cemetery in West Roxbury. late Army veteran.  In lieu of flowers
donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Castle Island Association, 170
