Robert Coleman “Coley” Nee, a lifelong resident of South Boston, passed away suddenly on August 25, 2026, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston with his family by his side. He was 84. Born on January 8, 1942, in Boston, Massachusetts, Coley was shaped by the city he loved and remained deeply connected to South Boston throughout his life.
Coley was educated in the Boston Public School system and went on to become a longtime pressman for The Boston Globe newspaper. He was also an Army Veteran of the Vietnam Era, a role that reflected his steady sense of duty and service. Those who knew him understood that he was a man of honesty and directness; you always knew where you stood with Coley. He loved catching up with friends, having a good time, and taking walks at Castle Island, simple pleasures that brought him happiness and kept him close to the people and places he cherished most.
Above all else, his family was his greatest accomplishment. He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Bausemer and her late Husband Daniel Bausemer, his son, Sean Nee and his wife, Katie. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Lila and Jack Bausemer, and to Thomas and Mary Nee. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy Doyle, and her husband, Frank, as well as his sister-in-law, Susan Nee, and his brother-in-law, Joseph Casper. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will remember him with affection and gratitude.
Coley was predeceased by his parents Helen (Fitzgerald) and Joseph Nee Sr, brothers, William Nee, Joseph “DoDo” Nee, and James Nee; by William and his wife, Betty; and by his sister, Donna Casper. Their memories remained an important part of the family story he carried with him throughout his life.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance during visitation on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at WM. F. Spencer Funeral Service, 575 E Broadway, South Boston, MA 02127.
