Paul Michael Rich (August 12 1940 to March 27, 2024) Obituary
Paul Michael Rich, 83, of Boston, Massachusetts, formerly of Hull & Duxbury, Massachusetts and Kennebunk, Maine, died after a brief illness on March 27, 2024 surrounded by family. Born on August 12, 1940 in Roxbury (Boston) MA, he is predeceased by his wife Margaret “Peggy" (Hatch), his parents, Michael F & Marion (Gilboy) Rich of Weymouth, MA, and his sister, Joan (Rich) Balonis of Weymouth MA. Paul married his wife, Peggy in 1961 at Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth, MA. He was a US Navy veteran where he became a journeyman electrician; he later obtained his masters electrician license and worked with his father, mother and siblings at their family business (Atlas Alarm Corp., in Weymouth MA) as a principal owner, operator and director.
His family relations, especially his own role as father, grandfather & great-grandfather, as well as a loyal & loving brother were of greatest importance to him. This is where he drew his strength and where he left his legacy. Being with his family was what Paul enjoyed most of all. In addition, he relished local sports, deep-sea fishing, walking the beach and just being near the ocean. Paul's life had some ups & downs as well we all do. He helped his wife as she struggled for decades living with devastating illness and dementia. Yet through it all, his love for the comfort and wellbeing of his family remained his ultimate focus, and in so many, many ways, he was able to pass-on that love and strength to his family.
Paul is survived by his five children, Lisa (John) Podrecca, of Crossville, TN, Amy (Frank) Rhodes of Halifax, MA, Kevin Rich (Steven Smoot) of Boston, MA, Jennifer (Jerome) Libby of East Wakefield, NH and Andrew (Jamie Kelly) Rich of Hull, MA, his five grandchildren, Chris Podrecca of Mattapoisett, MA, Molly (Brendan) Doherty of Plymouth, MA, Sean (Denise) Podcecca of Las Vegas NV, Bridget (Mikey) Dalton of Marshfield, MA and Dakota (Adam) Novak of Berwick, ME., his six great-grandchildren, Declan Doherty, Carter Novak, Penelope Novak, Wren Podrecca, Robin Podrecca, and Michael (MJ) Dalton, as well as his six surviving, siblings, Barbara, Ann, Marion, Alan, Michael and John all of Eastern Massachusetts, in addition to many friends from near and far.
Private services will be held at Southern Maine Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Sanford, ME at a later date to be determined. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
