BARRY, Norah "Mary" (Griffin) Of South Boston and Charlestown Massachusetts, died in peace after a short illness on Monday May 10, 2010, at the Marian Manor in South Boston. She was the proud Mother of four children, former President of Cooperative Services, Inc, a retired textile worker, and the greatest fan of the Boston Red Sox. Mary was born in a thatched cottage in Rahoon, County Galway, Ireland in 1923 to the late Peter and May (Heffernan) Griffin. Mary and her late former husband James N. Barry of Beverly, MA and Melbourne FL, were loving parents of Anna M. Barry and her partner Leo A. Dirrane of South Boston, MA; Lee T. Barry of Revere, MA; Peter D. Barry of Pittsfield, MA; and James J. Barry and his wife Patricia of West Seattle, WA. She also leaves Brothers-in-law Vincent James DiPaolo of Beverly and John Curran of Brampton, Ontario, and her Sister-in-law, Carmen Barry of Beverly. Many loving cousins, nieces and nephews, in the United States, Canada and Ireland, mourn her, including: Mrs. Mary Strong and Mrs. Robert Hart of Brookline, MA; Mrs. James A. Scannell of West Roxbury, MA; John and Ann McGrath Norwood, MA; Dennis DiPaolo and Jeanne Larssen, of Mason, N. H.; Marie and John Soucy of Beverly, MA; James Barry of Groveland, MA; and Brian Barry of Beverly, MA. She also welcomed to her family as her grandchildren, Leo's children, Christine Battcock, Tara Dirrane and Dan Dirrane and their families. Mary graduated from Galway Technical High School, where she played on the championship camogie team. In 1949, she immigrated to the United States, settling on the North Shore. She moved to Pittsfield, MA, in 1953, where she and her husband raised their family, and she began her career as a textile worker. Mary returned to Ireland for several years in 1981. She returned in 1987 to live Charlestown until 2007. She was active in the Constitution Co-op building council for several years. She had many friends, traveled around the country and indulged her love of Red Sox Baseball. Her children thank the staffs of the Marian Manor and the Evercare Hospice for their compassionate care and friendship for their Mother. They particularly thank them for giving Mary and her family comfort and peace in her last days. They invite her friends and family to make donations to the Marian Manor or the charity of their choice in her name. The family will celebrate her life in a private Mass.
