Lorraine “Rainey” (Holmes) Fiasconaro passed away peacefully June 7, 2026, just two weeks shy of her 95th birthday.
Born and raised in South Boston, Rainey was the beloved daughter of the late Evelyn Holmes. Rainey was predeceased by her grandmother, Louise (Deardon) Holmes, who helped raise her as well as her special uncles and aunts, whom she also grew up with, Joseph Holmes, Walter “Wally” Holmes, Robert Holmes and Charles “Charlie” Holmes, and Ruth Smooth Ryan and Helen Curtis
Rainey was a loving mother to Benedict “Benny” Fiasconaro, Jr. and the late Karen of South Boston and Quincy, Jayne Maher and the lateJack, of Merrimack, NH, Karen Kennedy and Robert “Bo” of Quincy, Michael Fiasconaro and Amy of Hollywood, FL, and the late Charles “Charlie” Fiasconaro of South Boston. Cherished nana to Billy and Kate, Erin and Adam, Stephen and Angel, Jenna, and the late Carly. Great Grandmother to Avah, Abby, Liam, Anela, Adam “AJ”, Aria and Stephen, and Auntie Rainey to many. Rainey was predeceased by her former husband Benedict “Benny” Fiasconaro.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, niece, and friend to many.
Rainey dedicated her life to raising her five children and later helping with her grandchildren with sleepovers and day trips to the beach and Castle Island for ice cream.
Rainey was a graduate of South Boston High School class of 1948, which she remained an active participant attending monthly luncheons and class reunions for many years. A retiree from Stone & Webster in Boston, Rainey’s love to her hometown of South Boston was unwavering as she worked part-time for a period at the South Boston Action Center, the South Boston Tribune, and for 26 years in retirement until she was 89 at the South Boston Neighborhood House "The Ollie," on their senior programs. Rainey was a longtime member of the South Boston Irish American Society and member and volunteer with the Castle Island Association.
Being from South Boston and growing up on the Beach, Rainey was an avid swimmer. She spent many days swimming fence to fence at the L Street bathhouse well into her 80s.
Rainey was adventurous and loved to travel and explore. She enjoyed many trips and excursions with her South Boston friends and groups to Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Hawaii, Alaska, Caribbean, Florida, and to the Cape Cod Irish Village, just to name a few. She enjoyed her time as a resident at H & 5th, loved to shop and lunch with friends, including her long-time girlfriend, Peggy Graham.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during visiting hours on Monday, June 15, 2026, from 9:00-10:30 AM at the Spencer Funeral Home on East Broadway, South Boston, MA follow by a Funeral Mass at Gate of Heaven Church, South Boston, MA at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the South Boston Neighborhood House and the Castle Island Association, organizations that Lorraine held close to her heart. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Alliance Health at Marina Bay for the compassionate care they provided Rainey in her final days.
