LARRY G. JONES

Jones Larry G died on April 2,2013 in Boston, Massachusetts, of complications of Alzheimer’s disease. He spent his life as a college professor and administrator.   His career included positions as Assistant Provost (Wittenberg University, Ohio), Dean of the College (Midland Lutheran College, Nebraska), and Public Service Associate in the Institute for Higher Education (University of Georgia).  He retired from Georgia in 2005, after 32 years in a variety of positions there.

A native of Mankato, Minnesota, he holds the bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota, Master’s degree from the State University of Minnesota-Mankato and PhD from the University of Iowa, where he received a fellowship to assist in the research and development of the Iowa Study of Post High School Education. While at the University of Iowa, he met his wife Ann, who is a professor in the School of Music at Boston University. Larry is the youngest of three.  His sister lives in Edina, Minnesota and his brother lives in in Berea, Kentucky.  There are many nieces and nephews.


Professionally, his memberships included the European Institute for Higher Education, the Southern Association for Institutional Research and the Association for Institutional Research. He was given the Outstanding Service and Distinguished Member Awards by SAIR.

As an Eagle Scout and winner of the Order of the Arrow, Larry began collecting stamps and coins as scouting projects.  He continued to be fascinated by both.
Another life-long passion has been sports.  He was an outstanding tennis player, winning many tournaments and finally coaching tennis at the collegiate level.  He taught himself to play golf.  He has been surrounded by music all his life, performing in band and chorus, and attending concerts; especially those conducted by his wife and her many students.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Larry Jones’ memory can be made to the Music program at Marsh Chapel on the Boston University campus.  Other arrangements  are pending.www.spencerfuneralservice.com
